Job Description: The Department of Music in the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a full-time, tenure-track position (#F0347) at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2026.
Professional Responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate courses, including:
- Applied violin / viola for music majors
- Secondary / Elective applied violin / viola for minors and non-music majors
- Directing the Chamber Orchestra
- Teaching Strings Methods for Instrumental Music Education Majors
- Teaching Music History
Depending on qualifications, additional duties may include teaching aural skills, and/or music courses in Civitae, Longwood's signature general education curriculum. In addition to the primary responsibility of innovative undergraduate teaching, faculty are expected to advise students in the major, establish and maintain an active agenda of performance and scholarly/creative work, collaborate with colleagues, engage in appropriate committee work, attend university and departmental events, and recruit new students.
This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.
Job Requirements:
- The successful candidate must have an earned Doctorate in Music by August 2026.
- University-level experience in teaching applied violin is required.
- Preference will be given to candidates whose general teaching credentials best complement the expertise of current music faculty.
- Candidates must demonstrate commitment to student recruitment and the development of relationships with secondary school music teachers.
- A demonstrated ability and commitment to working with diverse populations and perspectives of students, faculty, and staff in support of the university mission is preferred.
Additional Information:This is a full-time, tenure-track instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
